Metabolic Disease Center (MDC)

Dr. Seymour Packman is the Director of the Biomedical Genetics Program at UCSF, Division of Medical Genetics.

The Neurometabolic Clinic initially began in 1994 as an outgrowth of the General Genetics Clinic. It expanded to include neurodegenerative and neurogenetic disorders with the inclusion of members of the Child Neurology faculty in 1996. The service provides comprehensive disease management, diagnostic evaluations, genetic counseling and education to patients and families throughout Northern California and adjacent communities. We are a Center formally designated by California Children's Services for the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic and neurologic diseases in children. In addition, we are a center designated by the California Genetic Disease Branch for treatment and management of patients identified by the California Newborn Screening Program. The location of the Neurometabolic Program at UCSF provides unparalleled access to a broad range of specialists, complementing the expertise of the Program's core health care professionals.
