Open Positions Faculty Position Applicants should e-mail their curriculum vitae and names and addresses of three references to: Anthony Wynshaw-Boris, MD, PhD Email: wynshawborist@peds.ucsf.edu UCSF is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. The University undertakes affirmative action to assure equal employment opportunity for underutilized minorities and women, for persons with disabilities, and for covered veterans. Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Biology A postdoctoral position is available for a computational biologist in the broad fields of epigenetics, non-coding RNAs and cancer genomics. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: statistical inference of important biological networks from large datasets, modeling three-dimensional chromatin structure and gene regulation, developing high-throughput technology for chromatin assays, studying the role of non-coding RNAs in epigenetics, and analyzing cancer genomes for novel oncogenes and tumor suppressors. A qualified individual should have a strong background in one or more of the following fields: bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or systems biology. Some training in or exposure to molecular biology is preferred, but in exceptional cases, the applicant may substitute a skill and willingness to learn fast. The applicant should know how to program in at least one of C, C++, Java, Perl, or Python. We are an energetic young lab in the UCSF Institute for Human Genetics located at the Parnassus Campus, just few blocks from Golden Gate Park. Many active collaborative and interdisciplinary opportunities are available. Interested candidates should send a CV and a brief description of past research experience to Dr. Jun S. Song (6a73736f6e67406961732e656475, convert this address from hexadecimal to string). The position will be available from Sept 1, 2009 and will remain open until filled. Post-Doctoral Training in Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology
The UCSF Institute for Human Genetics serves as a conduit for the Program, which links together major academic and research institutions in the San Francisco Bay Area. In particular, mentors and research training opportunities will come from the University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley, Kaiser Permanente and the Northern California Cancer Center. Trainees may work in a highly interactive fashion with multiple faculty mentors who have innovative research programs. Training support is for one to three years. Salary is competitive (up to $70,000 per year), and Trainees receive $30,000 in annual research funds. United States citizens and permanent residents are invited to apply by contacting John Witte. Postdoctoral Position in Statistical Genetics or Genetic Epidemiology The UCSF Asthma Genetics Laboratory (AGL) is seeking a post-doctoral fellow with interest and expertise in either statistical genetics or genetic epidemiology to participate in projects aimed at understanding the genetic basis of complex diseases among racially admixed populations. The AGL is a member of UCSF’s Institute for Human Genetics. Projects include genome-wide association studies, studies of population stratification, and investigations of admixture mapping for complex diseases. Opportunities for training and research are available in many areas, including asthma, pharmacogenetics, population-based genetics, and investigating the modifying effects of race & ethnicity. The research environment is enhanced by large, family-based and population based sample sets of well phenotyped racially diverse individuals and strong national and international collaborative ties. Our group is highly interactive and multidisciplinary. Our team includes physician-scientists, genetic epidemiologists, geneticists, and molecular biologists. A strong background in statistical genetics or genetic epidemiology, experience in human genetic studies of complex traits, ability to work well with others and good communication and writing skills are required. Preference will be given to applicants meeting residency requirements for sponsorship from a National Institutes of Health training grant. Send curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation to Dr. Esteban Gonzalez Burchard, M.D., M.P.H., Director, Asthma Genetics Core Facility and UCSF DNA Bank, esteban.burchard@ucsf.edu.
